At first glance, you'd think the best thing about this image is the young subject's neutral, distant gaze—or even her traditional folkwear, with its lace collar, frontal and apron—but you'd be wrong.
It's the reverse of this postcard—the 1921 message to one "Mademoiselle", beautifully penned, and long. Look at how the writer has carefully used every last little bit of space for their dispatch...! A treasure indeed.
